The app collects nothing

Nowspace runs on your computer and has no server of its own. It sends no telemetry, no crash reports, no usage statistics and no analytics. It does not check for updates, phone home, or report that it was opened.

Your vault never leaves your machine. There is no account to create, so there is nothing to create it with — no email address, no name, no identifier. Nobody, including me, can see what is in your plan, because there is nowhere for it to be seen from. The source is open if you would rather verify that than take my word for it.

This website counts page views

nowspace.org uses GoatCounter, an open-source, privacy-focused counter, so I can tell whether anyone is reading this and which pages are worth improving. It records:

• the page you viewed, and when
• the site or search engine that referred you, if any
• your country, browser, operating system, language and screen width
• clicks on the download buttons and on links out to GitHub, as plain counts — which button, not who pressed it

It sets no cookies, stores no IP address, and does not follow you to other websites. No advertising network is involved and nothing is sold or shared for marketing. Because none of it identifies you, there is no consent banner to click — a banner here would be theatre rather than protection.

The detail worth knowing is how it stores that. GoatCounter keeps daily aggregate counts in separate tables with no way to join them: it knows that some page had four views from Firefox that day, and separately that some page had a view at 1920 pixels wide, but not that those were the same visit. There is no profile to build because the pieces are never connected. Your country is derived from your IP address and the address itself is discarded.

The counting is run by GoatCounter on my behalf, under their privacy policy. I am the only person who looks at the figures.

The unavoidable part: web server logs

This site is hosted on GitHub Pages, which — like every web server everywhere — sees the requests your browser makes, including your IP address, in order to send the page back. That is GitHub's processing, governed by the GitHub privacy statement, and I have no access to those logs.

Being straight about this is the point. Any website that tells you it collects nothing is skipping over the layer it does not control.

What this site does not have

• No accounts, sign-ups or logins
• No contact forms, comment fields or newsletter
• No embedded fonts, scripts, videos or images loaded from third parties
• No advertising, retargeting pixels or social media trackers
• No profiling, and no automated decisions of any kind

Everything except the analytics script above is served from this domain. The compass is inline SVG and the fonts are whatever your system already has.

Hosted instances

If you have been given access to a hosted Nowspace instance — a container running on someone else's machine rather than your own — then that arrangement is separate from this website and the terms of it come from whoever runs it. The downloadable app, which is what this site is about, keeps everything on your own computer.

Your rights, and who to ask

Under the GDPR you can ask what personal data is held about you, request a copy, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. In practice the honest answer here is likely to be "none" — the analytics hold no identifier that could be traced back to you, which also means I could not single out your records even if you asked me to.
